Taj Mahal – the most extravagant monument ever built for ♥LOVE

LOVE NOTE  – Wednesday February 22, 2012

Greetings to you most special LOVELIES♡

Welcome to JAIPUR where we arrived only a short time ago…….

My dear ♡Shelton has hunger for food and I for the internet and C-O-N-N-E-C-T-I-O-N across the seas……so I fetch my trusty laptop and we share at the dinner table out on the ornate courtyard with the Indian music serenading us in the background……..

Let me transport you to the Alsisar Haveli Hotel http://www.alsisar.com ………What a wonderful mix of quaint and picturesque and old-fashioned Indian charm….”incorporating the grandeur of traditional Rajput architecture….. to give the traveler a taste of true regal splendour with modern day amenities….”

DSC00513Everywhere you look there is some form of ornate artwork and crafts….fabulous ceilings and doors with inlaid silver finishings or marble inlay work or friezes of gorgeous flower motifs, arches, columns, big brass door handles, staircases and balconies, chandeliers, elegant antique furniture, statues and smooth marble floors….with tastefully designed sitting rooms spread here and there, an amazing ornate dinning room….. and not forgetting the charm of the bedroom with its intricately carved poster bed and furniture……I’ll gather some pics of  the treasures here tomorrow….

Feels like an adventure in itself to just be here….a fitting end to a special day….Did you know that the TAJ  MAHAL as described by English poet Sir Edwin Arnold is “Not a piece of architecture, as other buildings are but a proud passion of an emperor’s love wrought in living stones”………

It is a celebration of ♡LOVE for a woman exquisitely portrayed in marble. Taj Mahal means “Crown Palace” and it is the most well preserved and architecturally beautiful tomb.

niceThis most famous Taj Mahal was constructed by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, the ‘lady of the Taj’………It has been described as the most extravagant monument ever built for ♡LOVE. The Emperor was heartbroken when Mumtaz, to whom he had been married for 17 years, died in 1629 in childbirth after producing 14 children. Construction of the Taj began in 1631 and was not completed till 1653 as the fitting resting place for his beloved wife.

It felt special to discover that the TAJ  MAHAL is not only one of the most popular world heritage monuments on earth but it is an expression of deep everlasting ♡LOVE.

My sweetie ♡Shelton joked that I would deserve to be honoured with such style, graciousness and ornateness! Sounds pretty good to me!

Questions for you:  Could you handle receiving this much honouring and ♡LOVE-ing from your ♡Beloved? How would you like to be honoured by your ♡LOVE-d ones? What is the most extravagant monument you have ever built for ♡LOVE?…..

I’m off to sweet dreams in our magical bed sending much ♡LOVE and wishes that you are having a truly splendid day……Enchantedly and gratefully, Susie♥

  1. Ah, my love is building me a new studio with skylights! And many windows! A red door…His labor on weekends. I walk into the construction site and feel such a sense of love and peace, that this is a sacred space for me to create in one day soon.

    I think–no, no–I KNOW I prefer that over a tomb! XOXO

It sounds like you are having an amazing trip. I think that having 14 children in 17 years wore Mumtaz out.

I agree – having 14 children in 17 years would definitely wear Mumtaz out!….how wonderful that her Emperor still adored her so much.

  4. This question zinged so deeply into my heart: “What is the most extravagant monument you have ever built for ♥LOVE?…..” I realized that extravagant is the moments when I’m tapped out, feeling sorry for myself, lost in my own silly stories – and pause long enough to wipe the clouds from my eyes, breathe lose the clench from my heart – and turn to my loved ones with generosity, delight and love. The photos are magnificent. As always – thanks for your inspiration. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

  5. ♥Elizabeth dear,
When reading of you sharing about being lost in your “own silly stories” a part of me jumps forward with an invitation to be kinder to yourself & a wondering if you would be willing to turn to your inner “loved ones with generosity, delight and love”….I forget and judge my own stories too…and when I am conscious I remember all our stories are our ways of making sense of things and doing the best we can with what we know in the moment.
Sending ♥LOVE and gratefulness… always value hearing from you and look out for your wisdom, Susie♥
