Postcards from ♥Susie – Venice, Slovenia and Ravenna

LOVE TIP – Saturday May 25, 2013.

new way of seeing things

One’s destination is never a place but a new way of seeing things”.…♡

There was so much to explore and experience in Venice……we have whet our appetite for future trips…….St Mark’s Square and the stunning Basilica [cathedral], views from the Bell Tower, trips up and down the Grand Canal on the vaporetto [water buses], visiting the fruit & vege and fish markets…..a water taxi ride to the island of MURANO which is famous for its glass blowing…..and being very tempted there to buy a very expensive piece of art ………….. walking here, there and everywhere,……and more walking……. wandering up and down narrow alleyways and up steps and down steps and over foot bridges….

BRIDGES became my symbol for Venice….they are everywhere connecting one place to the next……with huge variation of types like the famous Rialto Bridge down to everyday simple connectors between places….The bridges reminding me of our ♥TOOL of crossing the bridge into the world of the other……

Sh & Gem & Sofia

One of the many bridges of Venice with ♥Sheltini and ♥Gem-ini and ♥Sofia who came out to play in the water taxi on the way to Murano……and after a week of cruising this is probably still one of my most favourite pics so far!! 🙂

Another thing that had a big impression on me was the exceptional artwork in St Mark’s Basilica, especially the patchwork of mosaic tiles that were all over the floor…. stunning!…..It is like they are a post all to themselves!

And No, we didn’t go for a ride in a gondola!…..just didn’t get around to it…..

The end of the day and our time came all too quickly and it was time to return to the ship to begin our journey out of Venice to travel overnight to our first port of call ……which was Koper.

Friday 24th May dawned with us docking in the new country of Slovenia and the Venice sunny days were replaced by raining and greyness and such chilling coldness………..brrrrrrrr a bit of a shock…..

Yet our day was the opposite as we were met by our wonderful friend ♡Carmen who is ‘native’ to this area who gave us the very generous gift of being our guide for the day…as well as assuring us the weather was very unseasonal for Slovenia. She whisked us away to visit the POSTOJNA CAVE and PREDJAMA CASTLE…what an extra special time we had…..and such a beautiful country…..We felt so grateful to dear Carmen♡……it is always so special to be guided by someone who knows the areas one is visiting.

The vast size of the huge caverns and ancient-ness and sacredness of the caves are what stood out for me at POSTOJNA……we travelled deep into the heart of the caves on an open train for 2 kms [with the train ride being totally unique itself as it sped through narrow and curving tunnels and wide open caverns]…… which was followed by a guided 1km walking tour on winding paths, up and down inclines, across bridges……exploring and discovering a whole new universe….all the time being impressed by both the natural wonders of the formations as well as the man-made paths and structures that allowed us to easily and safely immerse ourselves and traverse through and witness this space….and then whisked back to the surface on another train ride….

Not so far away we then got to see the PREDJAMA CASTLE… which is nestled into and at the same time feeling like it is perching precariously in a huge cave in this massive and steep hillside….and when we had climbed up into it we were presented with such beautiful views of the surrounding forest…..

Predjama Castle

Our day in Slovenia ended all too quickly with us again feeling like it was just a taste for future visits… well as leaving us feeling so full when combined with the days we spent in Venice that we decided that we would stay on-board and take it easy instead of going ashore at our next port of RAVENNA in Italy!

One learning that I am having from this trip is how there are so many places in the world that I have never been to… or in fact have even heard of let alone know anything about……I find this astounding….. and am so appreciating what an amazing world we live in…..

MIRRORING PRACTICE: Share about what impacts you the most or stands out for with another…..Or what new way of seeing things are you doing?…..Have them MIRROR you for a minimum of 5 minutes and then swap, or write about it in your journal if you prefer.

May you be discovering and uncovering much that is intriguing and delighting you. ♥LOVE and Blessings, Susie

Wow Susie and Shelton. it looks like a great cruise. My sister did something similar a couple of years ago and loved it. I am not sure Adrian could be persuaded to do something like this, but I would really enjoy it. its seems so easy doing it by boat and not have to repack and moved each day to a new motel. Enjoy it . Much love and hugs , Glenys xxx

  2. Great to hear from you ♥Glenys!
I am really appreciating the opportunity cruising is giving us to visit so many places and as you say to “not have repack and move each day to a new motel”… really does make it easy……bit like you guys travelling in your magnificent BUSKING!! Maybe that is a way it could be offered to ♥Adrian…..a floating BUSKING 🙂 ……sounds like a good topic for some ♥MIRRORING PRACTICE for you……
We are mulling around the idea of organizing a Retreat on a cruise… maybe that might be another option……
Sending much ♥LOVE and hugs back to you, Susie♥
